1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
Τότε [then] ο [the] Ιησοῦς [Jesus] ανήχθη [was led up] εις [into] τὴν [the] έρημον [wilderness] υπὸ [by] τοῦ [the] πνεύματος [Spirit],, πειρασθῆναι [to be tempted] υπὸ [by] τοῦ [the] διαβόλου [devil]..
2 And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry.
καὶ [and] νηστεύσας [having fasted] ημέρας [days] τεσσαράκοντα [forty] καὶ [and] νύκτας [nights] τεσσαράκοντα [forty] ύστερον [afterward] επείνασεν [hungered]..
3 Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”
Καὶ [and] προσελθὼν [approached] ο [the] πειράζων [tempter] εῖπεν [said] αυτῶ [to him],, Ει [if] υιὸς [son] εῖ [are] τοῦ [the] θεοῦ [of God],, ειπὲ [say] ίνα [that] οι [the] λίθοι [stones] οῦτοι [these] άρτοι [loaves] γένωνται [may become]..
4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’
ο [-] δὲ [and] αποκριθεὶς [answering] εῖπεν [said],, Γέγραπται [written],, Ουκ [not] επ᾿ [on] άρτω [bread] μόνω [alone] ζήσεται [shall live] ο [the] άνθρωπος [man],, αλλ᾿ [but] επὶ [on] παντὶ [every] ρήματι [word] εκπορευομένω [proceeding] διὰ [through] στόματος [mouth] θεοῦ [of God]..
5 Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple,
Τότε [then] παραλαμβάνει [takes] αυτὸν [him] ο [the] διάβολος [devil] εις [into] τὴν [the] αγίαν [holy] πόλιν [city],, καὶ [and] ίστησιν [sets] αυτὸν [him] επὶ [on] τὸ [the] πτερύγιον [wing] τοῦ [the] ιεροῦ [temple],,
6 and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: ‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’ and, ‘In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’ ”
καὶ [and] λέγει [says] αυτῶ [him],, Ει [if] υιὸς [son] εῖ [are] τοῦ [the] θεοῦ [of God],, βάλε [throw] σεαυτὸν [yourself] κάτω [down]·; γέγραπται [written] γὰρ [for] ότι [that] Τοῖς [the] αγγέλοις [angels] αυτοῦ [His] εντελεῖται [command] περὶ [concerning] σοῦ [you] καὶ [and] επὶ [on] χειρῶν [hands] αροῦσίν [bear] σε [you],, μήποτε [lest] προσκόψης [strike] πρὸς [against] λίθον [stone] τὸν [the] πόδα [foot] σου [your]..
7 Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the LORD your God.’
έφη [said] αυτῶ [him] ο [the] Ιησοῦς [Jesus],, Πάλιν [again] γέγραπται [written],, Ουκ [not] εκπειράσεις [shall tempt] κύριον [Lord] τὸν [the] θεόν [God] σου [your]..
8 Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.
Πάλιν [again] παραλαμβάνει [takes] αυτὸν [him] ο [the] διάβολος [devil] εις [into] όρος [mountain] υψηλὸν [high] λίαν [exceedingly],, καὶ [and] δείκνυσιν [shows] αυτῶ [him] πάσας [all] τὰς [the] βασιλείας [kingdoms] τοῦ [the] κόσμου [world] καὶ [and] τὴν [the] δόξαν [glory] αυτῶν [their],,
9 And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.”
καὶ [and] λέγει [says] αυτῶ [to him],, Ταῦτά [these] σοι [to you] πάντα [all] δώσω [will give] εὰν [if] πεσὼν [falling down] προσκυνήσης [worship] μοι [me]..
10 Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.’
τότε [then] λέγει [says] αυτῶ [to him] ο [the] Ιησοῦς [Jesus],, Ύπαγε [go away],, Σατανᾶ [Satan]·; γέγραπται [written] γάρ [for],, Κύριον [Lord] τὸν [the] θεόν [God] σου [your] προσκυνήσεις [shall worship] καὶ [and] αυτῶ [Him] μόνω [only] λατρεύσεις [shall serve]..
11 Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.
Τότε [then] αφίησιν [leaves] αυτὸν [him] ο [the] διάβολος [devil],, καὶ [and] ιδοὺ [behold] άγγελοι [angels] προσῆλθον [came] καὶ [and] διηκόνουν [ministered] αυτῶ [to Him]..
12 Now when Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, He departed to Galilee.

13 And leaving Nazareth, He came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the regions of Zebulun and Naphtali,
 καὶ [and] καταλιπὼν [left] τὴν [the] Ναζαρὰ [Nazareth] ελθὼν [come] κατώκησεν [dwelt] εις [into] Καφαρναοὺμ [Capernaum] τὴν [the] παραθαλασσίαν [by the sea] εν [in] ορίοις [borders] Ζαβουλὼν [Zebulun] καὶ [and] Νεφθαλίμ [Naphtali]·;
14 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying:
ίνα [that] πληρωθῆ [might be fulfilled] τὸ [the] ρηθὲν [spoken] διὰ [by] Ησαίου [Isaiah] τοῦ [the] προφήτου [prophet] λέγοντος [saying],,
15 “The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, By the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles:
Γῆ [land] Ζαβουλὼν [Zebulun] καὶ [and] γῆ [land] Νεφθαλίμ [Naphtali],, οδὸν [way] θαλάσσης [sea],, πέραν [beyond] τοῦ [the] Ιορδάνου [Jordan],, Γαλιλαία [Galilee] τῶν [the] εθνῶν [Gentiles],,
16 The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, And upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death Light has dawned.”
ο [the] λαὸς [people] ο [the] καθήμενος [sitting] εν [in] σκότει [darkness] φῶς [light] εῖδεν [saw] μέγα [great],, καὶ [and] τοῖς [the] καθημένοις [to those sitting] εν [in] χώρα [region] καὶ [and] σκιᾶ [shadow] θανάτου [of death] φῶς [light] ανέτειλεν [has dawned] αυτοῖς [to them]..
17 From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
Απὸ [from] τότε [that time] ήρξατο [began] ο [the] Ιησοῦς [Jesus] κηρύσσειν [to preach] καὶ [and] λέγειν [to say],, Μετανοεῖτε [repent],, ήγγικεν [has come near] γὰρ [for] η [the] βασιλεία [kingdom] τῶν [the] ουρανῶν [of heaven]..
18 And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.
Περιπατῶν [walking] δὲ [and] παρὰ [by] τὴν [the] θάλασσαν [sea] τῆς [the] Γαλιλαίας [of Galilee] εῖδεν [saw] δύο [two] αδελφούς [brothers],, Σίμωνα [Simon] τὸν [the] λεγόμενον [called] Πέτρον [Peter] καὶ [and] Ανδρέαν [Andrew] τὸν [the] αδελφὸν [brother] αυτοῦ [his],, βάλλοντας [casting] αμφίβληστρον [net] εις [into] τὴν [the] θάλασσαν [sea]·; ῆσαν [were] γὰρ [for] αλιεῖς [fishermen]..
19 Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
καὶ [and] λέγει [says] αυτοῖς [to them],, Δεῦτε [come] οπίσω [after] μου [me],, καὶ [and] ποιήσω [I will make] υμᾶς [you] αλιεῖς [fishers] ανθρώπων [of men]..
20 They immediately left their nets and followed Him.
οι [-] δὲ [-] ευθέως [immediately] αφέντες [having left] τὰ [the] δίκτυα [nets] ηκολούθησαν [followed] αυτῶ [Him]..
21 Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets. He called them,
Καὶ [and] προβὰς [gone] εκεῖθεν [from there] εῖδεν [saw] άλλους [other] δύο [two] αδελφούς [brothers],, Ιάκωβον [James] τὸν [-] τοῦ [the] Ζεβεδαίου [Zebedee] καὶ [and] Ιωάννην [John] τὸν [the] αδελφὸν [brother] αυτοῦ [his],, εν [in] τῶ [the] πλοίω [boat] μετὰ [with] Ζεβεδαίου [Zebedee] τοῦ [the] πατρὸς [father] αυτῶν [their] καταρτίζοντας [mending] τὰ [the] δίκτυα [nets] αυτῶν [their]·; καὶ [and] εκάλεσεν [called] αυτούς [them]..
22 and immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him.
οι [the] δὲ [and] ευθέως [immediately] αφέντες [having left] τὸ [the] πλοῖον [boat] καὶ [and] τὸν [the] πατέρα [father] αυτῶν [their] ηκολούθησαν [followed] αυτῶ [Him]..
23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people.
Καὶ [and] περιῆγεν [went about] εν [in] όλη [all] τῆ [the] Γαλιλαία [Galilee],, διδάσκων [teaching] εν [in] ταῖς [the] συναγωγαῖς [synagogues] αυτῶν [their] καὶ [and] κηρύσσων [preaching] τὸ [the] ευαγγέλιον [gospel] τῆς [the] βασιλείας [of the kingdom] καὶ [and] θεραπεύων [healing] πᾶσαν [every] νόσον [disease] καὶ [and] πᾶσαν [every] μαλακίαν [infirmity] εν [among] τῶ [the] λαῶ [people]..
24 Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them.
καὶ [and] απῆλθεν [went out] η [the] ακοὴ [report] αυτοῦ [of Him] εις [throughout] όλην [all] τὴν [the] Συρίαν [Syria]·; καὶ [and] προσήνεγκαν [they brought] αυτῶ [to Him] πάντας [all] τοὺς [the] κακῶς [who were ill] έχοντας [having] ποικίλαις [various] νόσοις [diseases] καὶ [and] βασάνοις [torments] συνεχομένους [afflicted] καὶ [and] δαιμονιζομένους [demon-possessed] καὶ [and] σεληνιαζομένους [epileptics] καὶ [and] παραλυτικούς [paralytics],, καὶ [and] εθεράπευσεν [healed] αυτούς [them]..
25 Great multitudes followed Him—from Galilee, and from Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and beyond the Jordan.
