1 Now the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell slain on Mount Gilboa.
Καὶ-οι-αλλόφυλοι-επολέμουν-επὶ-Ισραηλ-,-καὶ-έφυγον-οι-άνδρες-Ισραηλ-εκ-προσώπου-τῶν-αλλοφύλων-,-καὶ-πίπτουσιν-τραυματίαι-εν-τῶ-όρει-τῶ-Γελβουε-.-
2 Then the Philistines followed hard after Saul and his sons. And the Philistines killed Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua, Saul’s sons.
καὶ-συνάπτουσιν-αλλόφυλοι-τῶ-Σαουλ-καὶ-τοῖς-υιοῖς-αυτοῦ-,-καὶ-τύπτουσιν-αλλόφυλοι-τὸν-Ιωναθαν-καὶ-τὸν-Αμιναδαβ-καὶ-τὸν-Μελχισα-υιοὺς-Σαουλ-.-
3 The battle became fierce against Saul. The archers hit him, and he was severely wounded by the archers.
καὶ-βαρύνεται-ο-πόλεμος-επὶ-Σαουλ-,-καὶ-ευρίσκουσιν-αυτὸν-οι-ακοντισταί-,-άνδρες-τοξόται-,-καὶ-ετραυματίσθη-εις-τὰ-υποχόνδρια-.-
4 Then Saul said to his armorbearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised men come and thrust me through and abuse me.” But his armorbearer would not, for he was greatly afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword and fell on it.
καὶ-εῖπεν-Σαουλ-πρὸς-τὸν-αίροντα-τὰ-σκεύη-αυτοῦ-Σπάσαι-τὴν-ρομφαίαν-σου-καὶ-αποκέντησόν-με-εν-αυτῆ-,-μὴ-έλθωσιν-οι-απερίτμητοι-οῦτοι-καὶ-αποκεντήσωσίν-με-καὶ-εμπαίξωσίν-μοι-.-καὶ-ουκ-εβούλετο-ο-αίρων-τὰ-σκεύη-αυτοῦ-,-ότι-εφοβήθη-σφόδρα-·-καὶ-έλαβεν-Σαουλ-τὴν-ρομφαίαν-καὶ-επέπεσεν-επ᾿-αυτήν-.-
5 And when his armorbearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his sword, and died with him.
καὶ-εῖδεν-ο-αίρων-τὰ-σκεύη-αυτοῦ-ότι-τέθνηκεν-Σαουλ-,-καὶ-επέπεσεν-καὶ-αυτὸς-επὶ-τὴν-ρομφαίαν-αυτοῦ-καὶ-απέθανεν-μετ᾿-αυτοῦ-.-
6 So Saul, his three sons, his armorbearer, and all his men died together that same day.
καὶ-απέθανεν-Σαουλ-καὶ-οι-τρεῖς-υιοὶ-αυτοῦ-καὶ-ο-αίρων-τὰ-σκεύη-αυτοῦ-εν-τῆ-ημέρα-εκείνη-κατὰ-τὸ-αυτό-.-
7 And when the men of Israel who were on the other side of the valley, and those who were on the other side of the Jordan, saw that the men of Israel had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.
καὶ-εῖδον-οι-άνδρες-Ισραηλ-οι-εν-τῶ-πέραν-τῆς-κοιλάδος-καὶ-οι-εν-τῶ-πέραν-τοῦ-Ιορδάνου-ότι-έφυγον-οι-άνδρες-Ισραηλ-καὶ-ότι-τέθνηκεν-Σαουλ-καὶ-οι-υιοὶ-αυτοῦ-,-καὶ-καταλείπουσιν-τὰς-πόλεις-αυτῶν-καὶ-φεύγουσιν-·-καὶ-έρχονται-οι-αλλόφυλοι-καὶ-κατοικοῦσιν-εν-αυταῖς-.--
8 So it happened the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.
καὶ-εγενήθη-τῆ-επαύριον-καὶ-έρχονται-οι-αλλόφυλοι-εκδιδύσκειν-τοὺς-νεκροὺς-καὶ-ευρίσκουσιν-τὸν-Σαουλ-καὶ-τοὺς-τρεῖς-υιοὺς-αυτοῦ-πεπτωκότας-επὶ-τὰ-όρη-Γελβουε-.-
9 And they cut off his head and stripped off his armor, and sent word throughout the land of the Philistines, to proclaim it in the temple of their idols and among the people.
καὶ-αποστρέφουσιν-αυτὸν-καὶ-εξέδυσαν-τὰ-σκεύη-αυτοῦ-καὶ-αποστέλλουσιν-αυτὰ-εις-γῆν-αλλοφύλων-κύκλω-ευαγγελίζοντες-τοῖς-ειδώλοις-αυτῶν-καὶ-τῶ-λαῶ-αυτῶν-·-
10 Then they put his armor in the temple of the Ashtoreths, and they fastened his body to the wall of Beth Shan.
καὶ-ανέθηκαν-τὰ-σκεύη-αυτοῦ-εις-τὸ-Ασταρτεῖον-καὶ-τὸ-σῶμα-αυτοῦ-κατέπηξαν-εν-τῶ-τείχει-Βαιθσαν-.-
11 Now when the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul,
καὶ-ακούουσιν-οι-κατοικοῦντες-Ιαβις-τῆς-Γαλααδίτιδος-ὰ-εποίησαν-οι-αλλόφυλοι-τῶ-Σαουλ-.-
12 all the valiant men arose and traveled all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth Shan; and they came to Jabesh and burned them there.
καὶ-ανέστησαν-πᾶς-ανὴρ-δυνάμεως-καὶ-επορεύθησαν-όλην-τὴν-νύκτα-καὶ-έλαβον-τὸ-σῶμα-Σαουλ-καὶ-τὸ-σῶμα-Ιωναθαν-τοῦ-υιοῦ-αυτοῦ-απὸ-τείχους-Βαιθσαν-καὶ-φέρουσιν-αυτοὺς-εις-Ιαβις-καὶ-κατακαίουσιν-αυτοὺς-εκεῖ-.-
13 Then they took their bones and buried them under the tamarisk tree at Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
καὶ-λαμβάνουσιν-τὰ-οστᾶ-αυτῶν-καὶ-θάπτουσιν-υπὸ-τὴν-άρουραν-τὴν-Ιαβις-καὶ-νηστεύουσιν-επτὰ-ημέρας-.-
