All People Are Sinners

Bible quotes on the universality of original sin

Original sin —

1) The ancestral sin of Adam and Eve.

2) The damage to human nature, which is now drawn to sinful thoughts, words and deeds (one wants to do evil, while doing good takes an effort of the will). This state is passed on to descendants at birth: to all except the Lord Jesus Christ.

From Conception All People Inherit Sinfulness from the First Parents (Adam and Eve)

“Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? No one!” (Job. 14:4)

“What then? Are we better than they? Not at all. For we have previously charged both Jews and Greeks that they are all under sin. As it is written: ‘There is none righteous, no, not one; there is none who understands; there is none who seeks after God. They have all turned aside; they have together become unprofitable; there is none who does good, no, not one’” (Rom. 3:9-12)

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Rom. 3:23)

“Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned” (Rom. 5:12)

“For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous” (Rom. 5:19)

“For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin. <...> For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members” (Rom. 7:14,22-23)

“among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others” (Eph. 2:3)

“Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me” (Ps. 51:5)

“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?” (Jer. 17:9)

As They Grow Up, All Also Acquire Their Own Sinfulness

“For there is not a just man on earth who does good and does not sin” (Eccl. 7:20)

“For in truth there is no one among those who have been born who has not acted wickedly; among those who have existed there is no one who has not done wrong” (2 Esd. 8:35)

“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us” (1 John. 1:8)

“for there is no one who does not sin” (2 Chr. 6:36)

“Indeed, let God be true but every man a liar. As it is written: ‘That You may be justified in Your words, and may overcome when You are judged’” (Rom. 3:4)

“As it is written: ‘There is none righteous, no, not one’” (Rom. 3:10)

“But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe” (Gal. 3:22)

God Calls to Repentance and Amendment

“Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead” (Act. 17:30-31)

“Then Peter said to them, ‘Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit’” (Act. 2:38)

“He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned” (Mark. 16:16)

God calls to salvation through the Orthodox Church which He created 2000 years ago, and which one enters through Baptism.
